If you haven’t made your own beauty products before and fancy giving it a go I’d highly recommend trying out this kit from Sweet Cecily’s. My lovely sister-in-law Melissa bought me the kit as a birthday present from Not on the high street and it was dead easy to make.
The unboxing was exciting and everything you need to make the lip balm arrives in a beautifully packaged box with all the necessary ingredients measured out for you.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Empty the shea butter, beeswax and cocoa butter in to a double boiler and heat until melted
- Add the bottle of almond and calendula oil and mix well
- When all the ingredients have melted, remove from the heat and stir in the flavour provided
- Pour in to the lip balm containers provided
I don’t have a double boiler at home so I just used a glass bowl and a pot, does the job just as good. The ingredients were in fairly small quantities so it took no time at all to melt. I was hoping to get a photo of me pouring the liquid in to the containers but I didn’t realise how quick it would set.
I received 5 lip balm containers but only filled 4 (and a bit) with the ingredients that were provided but this could be down to me taking my time transferring from the glass bowl in to a jug so that I could pour it better and some of the product set in those containers before I managed to pour it in to the final containers. (Basically don’t mess around and just get it straight in to the containers provided).
I enjoyed making the lip balm and I’ll probably experiment a bit more with different ingredients and bigger quantities but overall it was a great birthday present. According to the instructions the lip balm should last 2 years. Doubt mine will be around that long.
